The Medical Specialist Group has appointed Dr Tom Saunders, a Consultant Physician with a specialist interest in elderly care.
Prior to his arrival in Guernsey, Dr Saunders previously worked in a similar role in Western Sussex Hospitals where he was the lead for Community Geriatrics, optimising support to remain well within their own homes.
Dr Saunders grew up in the Peak District before attending St George’s Hospital Medical School in London where he qualified in 2001. Following his appointment to the Royal College of Physicians in 2006 he underwent specialist training in Geriatric and General Medicine in London, Surrey and Sussex, before starting work as a Consultant Physician in Worthing in 2012.
He has a passion for service improvement and education, playing an active role in the education, training and the assessment of junior doctors. Dr Saunders regularly writes questions for their national speciality examinations and is a regular examiner on behalf of the Royal College of Physicians.
Dr Saunders interests outside of his working life include running, cycling and paddle boarding, as well as travelling with the opportunity to explore new places.
