New Chair for JT

Wednesday 25 April 2018

JT Group has appointed one of the UK’s leading technologists, Phil Male, as its Chair, succeeding John Stares in the role.

Guernsey-based Mr Stares stood down at the end of March, after completing ten years on the Group Board, the last five of which were as Chair. UK-based Mr Male who is replacing him, has been a non-executive director of JT since 2011, and previously chaired the Group’s nomination committee, as well as sitting on its audit and remuneration committees.

Mr Male said: “Since I joined the JT board I have been especially proud of JT’s impact in Guernsey, particularly in driving down prices for customers, introducing world-class infrastructure and supporting some fantastic local events. As the States prepares to launch their ambitious ‘Connected Guernsey’ strategy, I look forward to JT playing a leading role in establishing the Island as one of the most digitally connected places on Earth. Empowering communities through technology is something very close to my heart and I hope I can offer my own personal experience and expertise to help make this a reality.

“Working alongside me on the JT board I am very fortunate to have Guernsey-based entrepreneur Meriel Lenfestey. As well as her customer experience and digital skills she brings knowledge, understanding and a deep appreciation of Guernsey’s needs both through living and working on the Island as an international business woman, and through her engagement in many local organisations such as the IoD.”

Graeme Millar, Chief Executive Officer of JT, said: “Phil becomes Chairman at an exciting time for JT, as we deliver on our promise to be ‘always on, always there and always enabling.’ We now have a clear structure in place to develop both locally and internationally, bringing new products and services to a growing global audience while never losing sight of our Channel Island home. Phil’s guidance will be invaluable to me and the executive team at this strategically important time for the business.”

Meanwhile, a former Director of Financial Services for the States of Jersey and Head of AIB Bank in the Channel Islands and Isle of Man has been appointed as a Non-Executive Director of JT.

Jersey-based Joe Moynihan joins the Group Board of the Channel Islands’ largest and only locally owned telecommunications company. He said: “The success of Jersey and Guernsey’s financial services industries has been built on speedy, robust and reliable communications so I’m delighted to be joining the Board of a visionary company that plays such a pivotal role in ensuring our islands are among the most connected places in the world.”

JT’s new Chairman, Mr Male, said: “Joe’s senior-level commercial and public-sector experience, as well as his track record of managing business growth and developing talent, will be hugely beneficial to the JT Board, as will his wealth of Channel Island knowledge. I look forward to his valued input.”
