New appointments at GROW

GROW Ltd has made two key appointments to further its work in training and mentoring people with learning disabilities.

The charity is also still working towards its redevelopment plans, after meetings its fundraising target following a successful campaign.

Karen Blanchford, who has led the Guernsey Disability Alliance (GDA) for seven years, will join the charity to see it through this time as General Manager, while Richard Portsmouth joins the charity as its Training Manager, which is a new role.

Ms Blanchford said: "I have worked closely with GROW throughout my time with the GDA and have come to recognise what an important role it plays in developing the potential of their Crew. This is an exciting time to be joining the GROW team as we formulate plans to enhance the range of occupational and life skills training in the new facilities."

She will be working closely with Angus Bodman, GROW’s project director, to prepare and equip the new facilities ensuring they are completely accessible and appropriate for people with disabilities.

Mr Portsmouth said: "When I saw this position advertised, I knew my previous experience in three very different training roles would equip me for working at GROW. I am looking forward to joining the team to develop enhanced, bespoke training strategies so that we can offer a wider range of occupation opportunities for the Crew."

Karen not only has a wide knowledge of the disability sector through her role at the GDA but also has past experience in marketing, human resources and business management consultancy across Asia Pacific and Europe. She is well networked in the community and is perfectly placed to drive forward the GROW strategy as it evolves, and we prepare to return to the redeveloped site at the Coutanchez."
