M&S has confirmed the petrol forecourt at the St Martin’s Simply Food will close at the end of August so the site can be redeveloped.
The Food Hall will be reconfigured to expand from 4,000 sq ft to 7,000 sq ft with the retail space taking up the land currently used by the fuel station.
Head of M&S Guernsey Greg Yeoman said it was going to be an exciting change for the store.
"This was always part of the plan once we received planning permission. Well in advance of starting the building work next year, we have to do enabling works such as taking out the fuel pumps and ensuring the area is fit for purpose."
With the garage closing, any staff members that work in the forecourt will be offered alternative employment.
The fuel supplier Rubis said that customers could use the nearby La Villette or Forest Road garages instead.
Mr Yeoman said that hoarding will be put up around the front of the store at the end of this month while the forecourt removal and subsequent building works are carried out.
"It's exciting that the project is getting underway. It is important to note that the store will be open at normal opening hours and its very much business as usual."
