JT vehicles to go 100% electric within next few years

Wednesday 23 December 2020

JT has begun replacing its vehicle fleet with electric alternatives in an effort to become carbon neutral by 2030.

The first ten Nissan electric vehicles have been purchased, which will replace the oldest Suzuki vans in the fleet.

As part of the telecoms company's 'reduce, reuse, recycle' policy, the vehicles themselves were purchased used, having previously been operated by local councils in Scotland.

With well over 100 vehicles used by JT in the Channel Islands, and an ever-growing network of charging facilities for electric vehicles, Director of Corporate Affairs Tom Noel said that this was an important step for the company to take.

"Our aim is to not only replace all petrol and diesel vehicles, but to reduce the number of vehicles on our roads, supporting that with charging points in key locations," he said.

"As a business that has placed sustainability at the heart of everything we do, we've made initiatives like this a key priority of our sustainability strategy over the next decade."

JT have taken up a number of other initiatives as part of their sustainability programme, many of which have been driven by employees. These include using re-usable water bottles, synthetic paper notebooks that can be wiped clean, a solar panelled building, and an employee voucher scheme to encourage the use of e-bikes.

"Moments of global crisis often lead to historical change, and the recovery from the pandemic presents a huge opportunity for Governments, businesses and individuals to put action on climate at the heart of their efforts," said Mr Noel.
