IoD Guernsey to host breakfast briefing on 'Politics and Business'

Tuesday 19 November 2024

In a change to the previously published schedule, the IoD Guernsey branch announces a new theme for this month’s breakfast, taking place on Friday, 22 November.

The breakfast session will focus on the intersections of politics and business in Guernsey. Following strong interest and positive feedback from last month’s IoD Next Gen Forum workshop on politics, the IoD Guernsey branch aims to bring the same valuable insights to a broader audience of established leaders, executives, and professionals.

Jo Huxtable, Vice Chair of the IoD Guernsey branch, commented: "Understanding and engaging with politics, particularly at our local level, is increasingly important for business leaders in Guernsey. The decisions made within our government directly impact the environment in which we operate, and fostering this understanding can empower business leaders to make informed decisions and contribute to the island’s prosperity.

"The IoD’s recent Social Capital report highlighted the significance of strong, interconnected communities and business leaders have an important role to shape and protect our social capital connections. We all have a role to play in engaging with policies that affect our social and economic well-being. Events like this are vital in equipping our members with the knowledge to engage constructively with these themes and drive meaningful change."

The breakfast session at the OGH will feature an interactive Q&A panel discussion with Deputy Lindsay de Sausmarez, President of the Committee for the Environment & Infrastructure; Matt Fallaize, Senior Reporter at The Guernsey Press; and Shelaine Green, Chair of Women in Public Life Guernsey.

The breakfast will explore Guernsey’s political landscape and government structure, with a focus on the potential impact of the 2025 election, the unique features of Guernsey’s political framework, the business implications of policy decisions, and the role that business leaders play in fostering meaningful political engagement in Guernsey.

The IoD thanked its breakfast sponsor, Skipton International, for its support of this event.
