Global Entrepreneurship Week was "jam-packed"

Tuesday 26 November 2019

The Digital Greenhouse's Global Entrepreneurship Week has concluded after a long four days of conferences and events looking to support fledgling local business-people.

Across nine different events, entrepreneurs had the chance to learn about things like data protection and digital marketing, all while networking with the rest of the island.

The first event of "#GEW2019" was an enlightening session at the Purple Tuesday Breakfast Forum, covering positive customer service for disabled citizens and their families by introducing effective training and more accessible buildings and websites.

Next was the Eagle Labs Speed Networking Session run by Mark Smith, followed by the first Techprenurs panel hosted by Lucy Kirby, with Matt Thornton, Steve Streeting and Marie Streeting talking about building tech products. Their top advice from the evening, “Don’t wait, get on and do it” from Matt Thornton warning against procrastination for those looking to develop their own product, Steve Streeting gave the advice of, “live scrappy and focus on the end goal.”

Day two of #GEW2019 at the Digital Greenhouse started with Sarah Ticho from Hatsumi VR talking about Arts and Creativity in VR & Healthcare. After that was a panel titled: "Make Money Online: 5 Low-Cost Business Models You Can Launch Today To Escape The 9 To 5".

Day three of #GEW2019 reflected on what it was to be an entrepreneur: ‘An Entrepreneur is a person who sets up a business taking on financial risks in the hope of profit’. Leo Sanders thought this description wasn’t good enough, and came up with five attitudes for us to adopt to be more entrepreneur in his Digital Marketing Meetup #GEW2019 Special

  • View problems as opportunities
  • Think outside the box
  • Celebrate failures
  • Share ideas freely
  • Show passion and vulnerability

After that was the Eagle Lab's Accelerator Presentation evening, and day four saw another Networking Masterclass and a Data Protection Panel.

A spokesperson for the Digital Greenhouse said: "Thanks once again to all the sponsors and speakers at the events over the last two weeks, and to everyone who attended the events - please look forward to Global Entrepreneurship Week 2020 for more engaging seminars."
