The Guernsey International Insurance Association has launched a new event series, the Insurance Development Forum, for people keen to progress their career in the insurance industry.
The aim of the sessions is to provide regular industry updates throughout the year covering a wide range of different topics, while giving an opportunity for like-minded individuals in the industry to meet and network.
The first session will take place in the Colborne Room at the OGH on Tuesday 18 September at 16:00. The forum will include a GIIA Update by Deputy Chairman Mark Elliott, Guernsey Finance Chief Executive Dominic Wheatley and a session on Demystifying Risk Modelling by Xavier John. The short panel discussion will be followed by GIIA’s annual summer drinks event which begins at 17:00.
The content of future sessions will be directed by attendees and all feedback will be used to shape the format which is expected to evolve into an incubator for the future of the insurance industry. Pertinent technical topics will sit alongside personal development topics, such as mindfulness and leadership skills, offering a broad range of learning opportunities for insurance professionals.
The event series will be supported by Barclays and BDO.
Mr Elliott said, “our goal with the Forum is to engage people in the profession and to make them more aware of GIIA and opportunities within the industry.
"We are very pleased to have Barclays and BDO to support the Forum."
Nigel Winkett, Head of Captives and Offshore Insurance at Barclays, said: “In line with our shared growth ambition, Barclays are delighted to be involved with this new initiative, promoting opportunities for learning and development and supporting career aspirations for the next generation throughout the offshore insurance sector."
“At BDO we believe our people are our greatest asset, we put a strong emphasis on helping them to reach their full potential and achieve their career goals. We are pleased to be able to extend that ethos to the wider insurance industry and play an active part in developing its future,” said, Nathan Hodder, Audit Director at BDO Limited.
Registration for the event is via Eventbrite prior to 7 September. For further information, please email giia@giia.gg.
