Sue Le Friec, Guernsey Welfare Service Co-Ordinator, said she was delighted with the donation.

“Black Friday is a bargain-hunting promotion for many shoppers, but for some families, it can be difficult when their income barely stretches to cover their outgoings. The contribution from Guernsey Electricity will be used as vouchers for food, home heating and utility bills for Islanders, so we are really grateful.“

Malcolm Woodhams, Retail Manager at Guernsey Electricity, said: “We have run successful promotions over recent years to mark Black Friday, but this is the first time we have used the opportunity to support a local charity. I am delighted we have been able to raise a substantial amount of money for the Guernsey Welfare Service, particularly knowing the vital assistance they provide to many in the Island. The reaction from shoppers was also positive and very encouraging.”

The Guernsey Welfare Service is an independent Christian charity, established in 1896, which helps local people on low incomes by providing vouchers, food banks and practical assistance including teaching life skills and money coaching.
