Former JT boss becomes Islands Energy's new CEO

Wednesday 04 December 2024

Islands Energy has announced the appointment of a new CEO.

Islands Energy Group, which manages gas supply across the Crown Dependencies, confirmed that Graeme Millar will transition into his new role over the next couple of months to allow him time to exit from his current commitments.

It comes three months after former CEO Jo Cox stepped down with immediate effect after three years in the role.

Ms Cox’s tenure saw several high-profile incidents, including the tragic suspected gas explosion at Haut du Mont in Jersey in December 2022, which claimed 10 lives, and a significant outage in Jersey in October 2023 that left some customers without gas for up to two weeks.

Commenting on his appointment, new CEO Mr Millar said: “I am excited to join IEG at such a pivotal moment in the company’s history.

"Gas is an essential part of the energy mix of our communities, especially as we transition towards net zero.

“I look forward to working with all our stakeholders to ensure we provide our islands with energy security and resilience that is safe, low carbon and cost effective.”

Mr Millar has lived in the Channel Islands for the past 14 years, and spent 11 of those as the Group CEO of Jersey Telecom, where he oversaw the roll-out of fibre connectivity across Jersey and Guernsey.
