Local law enforcement, technology and engineering professionals have helped inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths).

STEMFest was held over the weekend and was hosted by NatWest International in partnership with Girlguiding Guernsey.

Girls aged nine to 14 took part in a range of activities designed to spark interest in STEM careers.

More than 60 girls attended the event, where they used fingerprint analysis to explore a crime scene and virtual reality headsets to learn how to code.

“Women are underrepresented in the STEM sector and to change this we need to look at how to inspire girls as early as possible,” said Managing Director or Guernsey’s RBS International, Susan Fouquier.

“We want local girls to have the relevant experience, skills and role models to become tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, bankers and beyond. Events like this are helping put more options on the table as they continue their schooling and eventually enter the workforce.”
