Channel Islands Adjusters Finance Director, Julie-anne Headington, has been recognised as one of the insurance industry’s 'leading lights', with a nomination for ‘Insurance Leader of the Year’ at the national Women in Finance Awards.

The awards were set up as a direct result of the UK Government’s Women in Finance Charter, which pledges gender balance across financial services, and itself encourages financial institutions to prioritise inclusion and help more women to progress into senior leadership roles.

Mrs Headington was nominated for the award alongside female leaders from firms including Scottish Widows, LV= and Zurich Insurance.

She was previously nominated as ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at the same awards in 2018 and has been recognised again by the judges due to her continued involvement with the Chartered Institute of Loss Adjusters (CILA).

As well as holding the Chartered Loss Adjuster qualification, Mrs Headington is a Chartered Insurance Practitioner, making her the only woman in the Channel Islands to hold ‘double chartered’ status. She is also a Fellow Member of the Association of Accounting Technicians and a Fellow of the International Federation of Adjusting Associations.

Mrs Headington said: “One of the founding mottos of Channel Islands Adjusters is that, no matter your age, gender or background, everyone should progress on merit alone, and we have demonstrated that by mentoring our team to complete the highest qualifications available to them in the industry. 50% of our board is female and we have the world’s current youngest Chartered Loss Adjuster as part of our team. This demonstrates that, no matter the size of your organisation, it is possible to prioritise a workplace which is fair and balanced for all.”

CILA’s Executive Director, Malcolm Hyde said: “Julie-anne is a fantastic role model for women in our industry. A quarter of our membership is female, but just 7% make it to Chartered status. However, this year, we have seen huge changes – 43% of those who have become Chartered globally in 2020 are female and this is the type of change we want to see in the loss adjusting profession.

“Julie-anne embodies everything we strive to be; she is professional, committed and extremely supportive of candidates from all backgrounds, providing them with encouragement and the confidence to do their best. I can’t think of a better candidate to be recognised for such an award.”
