The Channel Islands Coop has partnered with The Health Improvement Commission to make it easier to identify healthy options for children’s lunchboxes across Guernsey this autumn.
The new initiative introduces instore signage across all Coop shops to signal which foods are the healthier and more nutritious options for a child’s lunchbox.
The instore promotion of these items is complemented by additional resources including shopping lists, recipes, and nutrition tips, which are available online at
channelislands.coop/lunchboxheroes and on the Coop’s social media channels.
Cat Tyrrell of the Health Improvement Commission said: “As a local health charity, we frequently talk to parents to try and understand the barriers they face when preparing healthy lunchboxes for their children. Support with ideas and inspiration is often highlighted to us and so we hope this collaboration with CI Coop will help parents identify simple swaps and new ideas to make their child’s lunchbox more nutritious.
"This initiative forms part of a wider support package we are offering to schools and parents to help support children’s nutrition.”
Commercial Delivery Manager at CI Coop, Perushani Augustine, said: "We're proud to partner with The Health Improvement Commission in Guernsey to encourage healthy eating habits in primary aged children.
"At the Coop we take pride in caring for our community and understand the nutritional benefits of a well-balanced diet for good physical and mental wellbeing.
“We hope that our healthy lunchbox solutions will make life a little easier for parents and carers, and ensure their little heroes are looked after. Packing a healthy lunchbox is not only about the food, but also an opportunity to sprinkle some positivity on their day and ensure children are ready and able to learn and perform to their full potential."
