The Guernsey Building Trades Employers' Association (GBTEA) welcomed the Lieutenant Governor to its recent Gala Dinner & Recognition Awards Gala event.
Accompanied by Mrs Cripwell, His Excellency, Lieutenant General Richard Cripwell CB, CBE was a special guest at the Farmhouse Hotel where this year's apprentices were honoured.
The event celebrated the achievements of those apprentices undertaking construction industry training programmes with awards presented by His Excellency.
Tutors from The Guernsey Institute (TGI), College of Further Education nominated a student from each of the eight construction industry apprenticeship programmes as a category winner. GBTEA representatives then interviewed the eight nominees in order to select the overall winner.
Each nominee received an engraved tankard, a certificate of achievement and a £150 voucher for R H Gaudion & Son Ltd – donated by the respective award sponsor.
The overall winner and the new holder of the R G Falla Rose Bowl was named as Adam Quinn, who also received a cheque for £300 presented by R G Falla Ltd’s Director Sarah-Jayne Brewin.
Director of Apprenticeships for The Guernsey Institute, College of Further Education, Chris Torode said: “We were delighted to see apprentices’ achievements being recognised and celebrated at the event.
"Our construction industry apprenticeships continue to be a popular choice for young people seeking to enter the workforce whilst studying towards a formal qualification.
"This year we have 125 newly enrolled apprentices, 44% of whom are working within the construction sector. We continue to work closely with employers to review and adapt the apprenticeship curriculum, to reflect developments in the industry and we are grateful to the GBTEA for its on-going support and for hosting another great night.”
Kevin Le Tissier, Vice-president of the GBTEA added: “The evening provided us with an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of Guernsey’s best construction trades apprentices.
"The apprenticeship scheme is vital in providing the future talent that the industry will need and many former apprentices who have won these awards in the past have gone on to run their own businesses. Congratulations to everyone who won an award – a reflection of their hard work and dedication.”
