The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club’s ‘Rossborough Round the island Race’ 2018 is open for entries.
Scheduled for Sunday 19 August, this 40-mile race that dates back to at least 1931, is open to local and visiting sports boats, cruiser/racers and sport catamarans.
Anticipating over 20 boats taking part, the race starts in St Aubin’s Bay, Jersey at 10:00, with the fleet heading eastwards to the Violet Channel buoy and anti-clockwise around the island, returning to St Aubin’s Bay for the finish from mid-afternoon onwards, fair winds allowing.
"We are very proud to be sponsoring this long-standing and prestigious event for the third consecutive year. The well-established heritage of the race resonates with us at Rossborough as we have also been serving the island’s community for more than 80 years. It is a great community event, which is enjoyed by all whether you’re racing or spectating," said James Anderson, Group Managing Director of Rossborough.
RCIYC Commodore and Chair, Ian Flambard, said: "As the race is among the most renowned and long-standing in the island’s racing calendar, it is fantastic to have the support from such a respected island business with equally considerable heritage. Such support truly adds to the prestige, attraction and excitement of the event.
"Competitors really enjoy taking part in the race, with plenty of beautiful beaches and surrounding cliffs to admire during the circumnavigation, but this scenic route is not to be underestimated as it’s no easy challenge to race around Jersey."
There are trophies to be won in all classes and boats racing in the IRC cruiser/racer classes will be in with a chance of winning the RCIYC’s prestigious Jesse Boot and Cabot Memorial trophies.
Following the day’s racing, trophies and place prizes will be presented during a reception in the RCIYC clubhouse at St Aubin.
