Channel Islands gain fifth CIPR Fellow

The Channel Islands are now home to five Fellows of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations after Guernsey's Mark Oliphant was awarded the body's highest accolade.

Mr Oliphant is Head of Communications at The International Stock Exchange and sits on the Marketing Committee of the Guernsey Investment Funds Association.

He is a Chartered PR practitioner and has served as the Secretary, Vice Chair and Chair of the Channel Islands branch of the CIPR.

"I am delighted and honoured to have been awarded a Fellowship by the CIPR and join the ranks of many of the industry's leading practitioners," said Mr Oliphant.

"I would like to thank all those who have supported me along my path. I hope that by continuing to represent both the CIPR and the broader industry, I can contribute towards securing a strong future for public relations and those who work in the profession, including the Channel Islands."

Fellowship is awarded to select members for their contribution to the CIPR and the public relations profession as a whole. There are fewer than 300 Fellows of the CIPR across the world.

"Congratulations to Mark," said CIPR President Emma Leech. "Your professional achievements and commitment to life-long learning embody the CIPR's core values. Our community of Fellows act as ambassadors for the CIPR, promoting professionalism and demonstrating best practice across the industry."

Other Fellows currently based in the Channel Islands are Steve Falla, Mike Sunier, Adam Riddell and William Church.

Chair of CIPR Channel Islands, Mr Church added: "Mark has made a significant contribution to CIPR Channel Islands including coordinating our tenth anniversary celebrations last year, as well as representing the profession more broadly in the islands.

"It is fantastic that Mark has been rewarded with this accolade. This further demonstrates the communications expertise we have available in the Channel Islands, where we also have the largest proportion of Chartered practitioners of any CIPR regional group. The example should inspire others to progress along their journey of professional qualifications and Continuing Professional Development with the aim of getting Chartered and, ultimately, attaining Fellowship."

Mr Oliphant will receive his Fellowship certificate at the annual CIPR Fellows' lunch and lecture at the House of Lords on 27 September.
