Statement on temporary closure of Hougue Jehannet Road

On Sunday 22 March, a section of the Hougue Jehannet road was closed temporarily.

This is in response to a review of Island-wide critical infrastructure by the States of Guernsey which highlighted the risks associated with an open access road running through the Vale power station.

As a result, Guernsey Electricity commissioned an independent security evaluation, the results of which support and acknowledge the risk posed by the uncontrolled access of the road. The report went on to recommend that access should be restricted through a road closure.

To allow for a practical and appropriate solution to be developed that sufficiently reduces the risk, a temporary closure has been put in place effective from Sunday 22 March.

At this time, residents of Hougue Jehannet and vehicles for the Bucktrouts depot will be able to access these properties from the Summerfield Road end but no longer able to use it as a through road to Northside. Residents have been notified of these changes in advance.

The traffic audit undertaken highlights there are no major impacts on the local community and proposals for a permanent solution are expected to be brought forward to the States by the end of 2020.
