Guernsey's green waste sites reporters a busier than normal day as they reopened for business.

Guernsey Waste issued the below statement from Sarah Robinson, Guernsey Waste Operations Manager:

"By 3pm today we had 732 cars come to Chouet and 196 to the temporary site at Longue Hougue to drop off their green waste, these figures are well in excess of normal visitor numbers.

"We appreciate Islanders may have green waste to get rid of, as they have been busy in their gardens during lockdown, but we would ask that only those who are not able to keep hold of their green waste any longer visit the sites in the first few days to enable us to cope with the demand and keep queues to a minimum.

"Islanders are also encouraged to make use of the temporary site at Longue Hougue as today that site has proved to be quieter.

"The Household Waste and Recycling Centre is due to reopen on Thursday but will be for the deposit of certain recyclables only – more details to be published before then which Islanders should keep an eye out for.

"Islanders should also be aware that site staff will be unable to assist them in unloading their vehicles at all of our sites at this current time so they should bear this in mind before making the journey."
