A ‘good’ report for Forest Primary

Wednesday 28 February 2024

Forest Primary School has been rated 'good' in every single category following a recent external inspection.

Education, Sport, and Culture has said this is an incredibly positive result.

ESC President, Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen congratulated the headteacher; Paula Sullivan, her staff, and all the children at Forest Primary.

"This is the 11th education setting inspected as part of the new framework we introduced in 2021 and they continue to be a very important part of both reassuring school communities about good practice but also identifying where improvements can be made.

"The inspection report for Forest Primary clearly demonstrates the great work taking place there, and is a credit to staff, students and the whole school community."

The school was rated as ‘good’ in all five categories of the inspection framework. These cover the Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development and Welfare, Leadership and Management, and Early Years provision.

Mrs Sullivan said the Ofsted report "is a reflection of our wonderful school community and we are delighted with it."

"I consider myself incredibly lucky to lead this school with pupils and staff who make me proud," she said. "External inspections are never easy and to receive good ratings in all categories is recognition of what we are doing. I’d like to thank our staff for their dedication, our students for being generally amazing and our wider school community for their support. We strive for continual improvement and look forward to our future learning journey together."

Ofsted grades schools from being inadequate to requires improvement, good and excellent.

Inspectors did identify where some improvements can be made, with the important knowledge that pupils need to learn and remember described as not clearly identified. The report said the school should ensure that the crucial ideas and concepts that are important for pupils to remember are outlined in all subjects.

But with Forest Primary being rated as 'good' in all categories, it is firmly in one of the higher Ofsted categories.

Nick Hynes, Director of Education, said this rating also puts Forest Primary on a par with other schools in the island.

"Forest Primary is our sixth setting that has received at least good ratings in all inspection categories, which is a significant achievement for each and every one of them and hopefully demonstrates that education in Guernsey is heading in the right direction.

"This report highlights the many qualities of Forest Primary and Paula and her team should be rightly proud of it. Parents and carers can be reassured that their children are receiving a good quality of education in an inclusive and supportive setting."
