We spend so much of our time at work that it really is important that we’re happy in what we do.

But are we? Are you?

If the answer is no, is it time to shake things up and try something new? How about a little side step in to a new role? Or a total change in direction?

Luckily, there are plenty of opportunities to do just that. It really is a recruiter’s world right now!

Adrian Norman started work in finance at 16 – like so many people have done. Fresh out of school! He spent 30 years in the sector before deciding it was time for a change. He had enjoyed a really successful career before taking on a new – very different – challenge. Read all about that in No Ordinary Day Job.

Many people build their careers around their talents and interests – such as the owners of Iris and Dora. For an insight into their colourful career, check out Soul Food.

No matter where you are on your career path, everyone’s journey will have started at the same place, and with the island’s sixth form centre moving (temporarily) to La Mare de Carteret from next September, we took the chance for a walk around the building with some of education’s key players to find out exactly what will be in store for the next generation of Guernsey’s workers.

One thing to consider also, is will the next generation of Guernsey’s workers want to work here? Some of the current workforce have left – and they told us why in our Focus on emigration.

Would a tunnel help keep some of Guernsey’s future workers here? It could open up opportunities we’ve never been able to dream of previously...The Chamber of Commerce update us on that, and more.

When looking at opportunities for reskilling and upskilling in the island, we decided to look somewhere new – the prison. CLIP is succeeding in its mission to rehabilitate inmates by building their talents ahead of their release. This is a real success story and that’s why we chose the charity as our ‘Community Champion’ for April.

Guernsey Mind have an important message to share this month too, with advice on how to deal with stress “little by little”.

Life is stressful enough, and work can be very stressful no matter what you do, so I’m really pleased to say Guernsey Mind are our charity partner this year with more useful advice and signposting this month.

As we look to future editions of Connect, we’re always keen to hear from other organisations with useful and inspiring messages to share too.

Do get in contact with us if you have a story to tell.

Until then – enjoy Connect
