Guernsey’s hopes in the World Bowls Indoor Championships were all involved in tight clashes in the opening day of the group stages yesterday.

In the mixed pairs, Rose Ogier and Jason Greenslade were defeated by top Scottish duo of Julie Forrest and Michael Stepney 6-4, 5-10, 0-1.

In the men's singles clash of the day, Greenslade, born in Wales but now playing for Guernsey, beat his fellow World Bowls Tour top 16 competitor Stepney 5-8, 10-3, 1-0.

 

Alison Merrien is playing in the mixed pairs with Sweden's Ollie Backgren.

They lost their opening match on a tie-break to Nor Farah Ain Abdulah and Izzat Shameer Dzulkepie from Malaysia, 10-8, 2-10, 0-1.
Action continues at the Hougue du Pommier all week with 58 bowlers from 30 countries competing.
