Cyclist Jack Reed is back in France for his second season, with a new team, a new focus and fully recovered from a deliberating virus.

It follows what was a difficult end to last season.

He tested positive for Epstein-Barr virus in August which forced complete rest soon after his team announced it was stepping down from national to regional level, forcing him to seek a new one at a tricky time.

“I’m fully recovered now and back to normal health. In the end I ended up having about two months of no exercise, so I was jumping to get back on the bike and I’ve been training again since the end of October and slowly building up.”

That’s included a 10-day training camp in Portgual in December, building a base.

“Right now I'm the fittest I've ever been on a bike, I've really seen lots of improvements in tests over the winter which is really exciting.

“To say it's mid January right now and I'm going this well, it's exciting for the first few races and to be honest I'm itching to get started again.”

This season he will ride as a reserve rider with a team based near to where he lives in Brittany called VCP Loudeac.

“Last year I struggled with all the travelling. As a reserve Rider I hope to get around 25 to 30 race days with the main team team, which is perfect for me and also  I'll be able to do some lower level racing on weekends that I'm not with the main team.

“It's  a really exciting opportunity.”

His focus for this season is gaining a place on the main team for 2025.

Reed is being supported for a second season by Pedal Potential and Watts Property Consultants.
