You should never leave the game early when Guernsey FC play at Footes Lane.
But whereas in previous outings The Green Lions have made the last moments work in their favour, against Raynes Park Vale they saw a 2-1 advantage overturned and the visitors leave with all three points.
Jordan Gallagher’s stunning effort in the final minute of injury time ended GFC’s run of five games unbeaten at home and secured Raynes Park’s first win in seven.
The homeside took the lead on 24 minutes, after Charlton Gauvain blocked a rushed clearance from the goalkeeper and the ball bounced into the net.
Six minutes later things were level when Gallagher’s corner went straight in at the far post.
Both sides had further chances as the game went on, but it was the Green Lions who eventually regained the lead.
87 minutes had gone by when a push on Kieran Mahon in the area led to the referee pointing to the spot.
Ross Allen tucked that away for his 290th goal for the club.
Just two minutes later things were square again, Nathan Lewis bundling the ball in after near post scramble.
Then came Gallagher’s dipping shot from 25 yards.
GFC remain 18th in the league, eight points clear of the bottom two. Around them, Metropolitan Police beat Southall 2-1, in the night’s only other match. Southall could have gone top.
