Players from the UK, Jersey and Spain competed against Guernsey’s best for a share of the £3,500 prize fund in the NSM and SPF LTA Grade 1 Padel Tournament.

Seven of the top ten men in the LTA padel rankings were in action at Longcamps.

Over the three days 125 players participated across eight different events, with tournaments ranging from U14 to 60+.

The UK’s top players proved too strong for the locals, however there was a standout performance from Guernsey’s Olly Cull and his partner Cameron Dollimore who knocked out the Number 1 seeds Jake Bewley and Nikhil Mohindra in  the quarter finals.

In the other half of the draw Jersey’s Scott Clayton and Aaran Higgins played sensational padel in the match of the tournament, taking eventual champions Louie Harris and Rafa Vega to the wire in their quarter-final, losing in a Match Tie Break 10-8.

In the Ladies’ Draw, Helen Crook and Victoria Davies dominated the event to take the title. The closest match in the tournament came in the semi finals where they faced 14-year-old’s Chloe de La Mare and Rosie Quirk.

The girls once again showing what a bright future they have in the sport pushing the match to a final set tiebreak, where they led 8-7, before eventually succumbing to the much more experienced pair 10-8.

In the Men’s 40s and 50s events, Jersey took home the honours but Guernsey’s Rick Denton and Tony Woodland lifted the trophy in the Over 60s event.

The Ladies’ 40+ event was won by Sophie Cousins and Victoria Davies.

Guernsey showed it has one of the strongest junior padel programmes in the UK with a host of children competing in the U14 and U18 draws.

In the U14 final, a huge height difference was evident as number 1 seeds Freddie Furley and Emile Curle beat Danny Conchar and Theo Curle.

In the U18 final, it was the girls who proved strongest as Chloe de Mare and Rosie Quirk eventually overcame Liam De La Mare and Ed Morgan in front of a noisy Centre Court crowd in the evening sunshine.
