Vance out with "complicated break"

Tuesday 03 December 2024

Guersey FC's manager is in hospital awaiting surgery after "an unfortunate accident".

The club posted the news on social media, along with well wishes for Tony Vance last night.

The club said Vance has suffered a "complicated break" meaning he "will not be on the sidelines for the foreseeable future".

The temporary loss of their manager comes at a crucial time for the Green Lions as they prepare to face Ashford away on Saturday.

Speaking after their home loss against Moneyfields last Saturday, Vance said the Ashford game is vitally important in Guernsey FC's relegation battle.

"It now means that Ashford is hugely significant, hugely important, and we need to not feel sorry for ourselves for too long, and what we do need to do is when we get on that plane and get to that pitch is make sure that we're ready to fight for everything," he said.

Although he needs to rest and recuperate, the club has said Vance "will remain involved with the team from a distance".

They said the long-standing manager will be "offering his guidance and support" while the "managerial reins will be jointly held by Steve Sharman and Kevin Gilligan" in his absence.

The pair are said to be "ready to lead the Green Lions forward through a busy festive period and beyond".
