A strong Guernsey under-15s recorded a comprehensive 31-5 win over Jersey RFC U15s on a bitterly cold but dry day in St Peter.
The boys in green hit the ground running from the off and their dominance was rewarded with a try within the opening five minutes.
That lead was doubled shortly after and a third try before halftime meant the Sarnians went into the changing rooms with a 17-0 advantage.
The Caesareans could have troubled the scoreboard towards the end of the period, but a mishandle over the try line put paid to hopes of eating into the deficit.
But they did respond after some encouraging words in the changing room, registering the first try of the second period.
Jersey looked a side reborn with tackles flying in with conviction.
However, the Sarnians hit back immediately with their fourth try of the game and five minutes later, they scored again, to extend the lead to 31-5, where it would finish.
Jersey kept pressing, spending the majority of the half in their opposition’s 22 and regularly being repelled on the try line.
But, they were unable to get break down the determined defence of their neighbours.
Jersey’s lead coach Tim Macready said: “To Guernsey’s credit, they played and tackled very well and are a good strong team.”
