Padel: Home comforts continue as Jersey reclaim the inter-insular

It is all square against in overall Corcuera Cup wins after Jersey beat Guernsey by eight points to win the 2024 edition.

Established in 2021, the cup has now been played four times, with the home side victorious on each occasion.

There were 64 matches across four categories in Jersey - Men's Open, Ladies' Open, Men's Vets and Ladies' Vets Guernsey's ladies squads both won their respective groups.

Jersey Padel team co-captain Bero Bobus was elated with his team's triumph: "I'm so happy that we were able to bring the Corcuera Cup home after it has lived in Guernsey for the past year.

"The scoreline 36-28 looked comfortable but, in reality, that's only a four-match difference and there were several games that were very close, so it could've easily gone the other way."

In a sign of how tight the overall context was, eight of the 64 matches were decided on Champions Tie Breaks.

Jersey Men's Veterans convincingly beat Guernsey, dropping just four of 16 contests.

In the Ladies' Veterans event, Guernsey's Debbie Allen took home the MVP award as she played alongside Andi Ferbrache.

Together, they claimed all four of their possible points against Jersey's partnerships.

The Sarnian duo played five tie-breaks across their fixtures, a testament to the competitive nature of their bracket.

The final Ladies Vets score was 9-7 to Guernsey.

Guernsey's Ladies' Open squad also won narrowly with only two matches separating the islands.

After winning one solitary match last year, this time around the Jersey WD Open team won six, finalising the tally at 10-6 Guernsey.
In the Men's Open, Jersey dug deep to claim an 11-5 victory over their rivals.

Guernsey's Olly Cull and Liam De La Mare proved a dominant force as they overcame each of the four Jersey partnerships.

The 2025 edition of the Corcuera Cup will take place in Guernsey.

In November, Guernsey and Jersey will join forces to send a Channel Islands Team to Bristol for the UK County Championships.
