New running club prioritises "fun and fitness"

Tuesday 05 December 2023

James Le Gallez is hoping to inspire a new wave of athletes with the launch of a running club called Tides & Trails.

The club, which meets at 18:00 every Wednesday at Le Petit Train ticket booth at Albert Pier, offers varied 5km routes and a fun, inclusive nature.

Le Gallez  is preparing to take on the Marathon des Sables in April, a gruelling 250 km, five-stage race across the Moroccan Sahara.

“I’ve always been keen to join a local running club but couldn’t find one that suited me,” he said.

“I really enjoy running after work; it’s the best antidote to a busy day, and I knew there must be like-minded people who would benefit from a club that prioritises fun and fitness over competition.

“I’m really pleased with how popular Tides & Trails Run Club is already proving and am thrilled to have some company while I undertake my regular training runs in preparation for Marathon des Sables. I’ve got lots of ideas on how to develop the club and inspire more people to join in the fun – watch this space.”

Through his Marathon des Sables challenge, Le Gallez aims to raise £10,000 for three Channel Islands charities: Autism Guernsey, the Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief and Jersey Hospice Care.
