Maya Le Tissier has been named Young Player of the Year at the Shein Women’s Football Awards.

The awards returned for the second year running to celebrate achievements and the growth of the women’s game.

Le Tissier could not attend the ceremony as she was busy preparing for the England Lionesses’ next matches.

But in a recorded message she said: "I just wanted to say a massive thank you for the award.

"I really appreciate it, and all the support and the votes for me. I feel very proud to have won the award."

Le Tissier was an unused substitute as England lost to France 2-1 in Newcastle.

The result leaves them sitting third in their Euro qualifying group with four points, level with Sweden. France are top with nine points.

Sarina Wiegman's side travel to Saint-Etienne for a second meeting with France tomorrow night.
