The first medals of the Island Games will be handed out today as the sporting action gets underway.

One of the big focusses will be down at Rocquaine for the triathlon, where Guernsey eyes will be on the likes of Megan Chapple and Josh Lewis for individual honours.

There are also high hopes of podium spots in the team events, with the races beginning at 11:50 and 12:10. Road closures are in place.

Shooting will also be handing out honours on the first day of the Games, with medal ceremonies scheduled for 17:00 at Portinfer and 19:00 at Beau Sejour.

At Footes Lane the athletics start at 14:00 and runs until just after 17:30.

There are finals in the men's hammer where Guernsey's James Bougourd is competing,  the women's triple jump where both Holy Drake and Vicky Hancock will be pushing the upper positions in the field and women's 10,000m where Sarah Roe hopes to add to her previous Games successes. 

Guernsey open up their group stage games in men's and women's basketball against Isle of Man (14:00) and Falkland Islands  (16:30) respectively at Beau Sejour.

In the football, Guernsey's mens side face Western Isles at The Track at 18:30. Victoria Avenue is will be closed.
