Harris reflects on a decade with Raiders after stepping down as Chair

Friday 26 July 2024

Andrea Harris has stepped down as Guernsey Raiders Chair after a decade of involvement with the club.

Harris was not only the Club’s first female Chair, but also the first female President in the Presidents and Vice President’s Club.

Gary Haycock-West will step up to the role for this season.

She felt it was time to hand over the reins: "Rugby came into my life at a time when I needed to find a purpose and it gave me so much more. My rugby family means the world to me, as does the friendships forged from being part of this Board and this committee."

She thanked everyone who has been a part of her journey with the club: "I very much look forward to seeing what the future holds for this Club and continuing to support the Raiders."

Haycock-West moved to Guernsey in 2021 and joined the board that season. He was elected Vice-Chair in 2023.

"Andrea has given so much to the club, from playing to administration to leadership, her legacy will live on and a great platform for us to build upon.

Haycock-West added: "I have played, watched and been involved in Rugby all my life which gives me great enjoyment, and supporting my local rugby club helps me give a little back to the club and the community.

"I look forward to working with the Board, Committee, Players, supporters and the whole Raiders family this season."

He will be supported by Chris Gnapp, who will fill the role as Vice Chair.

Gnapp has been involved in the club since 2008 in a variety of roles, including travel coordinator and Sponsorship Director.

"The club has gone through and continues to go through its biggest period of change since I have been involved. The changes and improvements for island rugby are incredible and I look forward to playing my part in delivering these changes."

He added: "Rugby is such a community sport and means so much to so many people, including players. Coaches and of course, supporters and I am very proud to be part of the team delivering local rugby on the island."
