It was challenging.
At times it was chaotic.
But in the end all that really mattered for Guernsey was the scoreline.
They lifted the Ambassadeur Bowl after a hard fought 2-1 win against a Jersey side that were left ruing missed chances and ill discipline.
In a match played in persistent drizzle, Jack Griffin put Guernsey ahead from close range in the 38th minute after a corner was not dealt with by the Reds.
Just moments later things boiled over in the middle of the pitch in front of the benches after a challenge by Jersey’s Barry Beatson led to his second yellow card and an early walk down the tunnel under the Garenne Stand (pictured below).
When they came out in the second half, Guernsey were looking to control the game with the extra man, but things unravelled quickly.
The ever dangerous Rai Dos Santos, who in the first half saw a goal bound acrobatic bicycle kick cleared by a stretched defender, stole through to equalise.
It often looked like it was Jersey who were the team a man up as they carved out the best chances but as they game dragged on and the legs were sapped of energy Guernsey came up trumps.
The match was 75 minutes old when Keene Domaille calmly lifted the ball over onrushing Jersey goalkeeper Pierce Roche and reeled away to celebrate with the Guernsey fans behind the goal.
The men in red saw more golden chances go begging as Patrick O’Toole fired over and Guernsey cleared another off the line before the final whistle was blown.
As the Greens celebrated another Jersey's goalscorer was sent off for what looked like verbals directed at the referee.
