Guernsey FC’s opponents confirmed for expanded season

Thursday 23 May 2024

Guernsey FC will face six new opponents in the upcoming season.

Isthmian South Central is increasing by one team to 22.

There are two eye-catching names among the six new teams.

Hayes & Yeading, who were relegated from the Southern Premier League South Division, were formed from the merger of Hayes FC and Yeading FC. Yeading reached the third round of the FA Cup in 2005, where they were knocked out by Newcastle United.

Kingstonian, relegated from the Isthmian Premier Division, were playing as high as the Conference (now National League, one below the Football League) around the turn of the century.

The Green Lions expanded fixture list will also include Harrow Borough, who were relegated from the Southern Premier League South Division; Horndean, who have moved from Isthmian South East Division; Moneyfields, promoted from the Wessex Premier League; and Rayners Lane, promoted from the Combined Counties Premier Division North.

Another notable addition to the league are Farnham Town, who GFC faced three times in the Combined Counties Premier in 2012-13, in the early rounds of their FA Vase run and twice in the league.

The most memorable of those clashes was when the Green Lions beat Farnham 1-0 in the fourth and final game of a mammoth final weekend of four games in four days to confirm promotion.

Now with heavy financial backing, Farnham won the Combined Counties Premier Division South at a canter last season, amassing 108 points in an unbeaten season where they only failed to win three times.

They will be looking to move straight through to the Premier Division.

Chertsey Town and Marlow were promoted from South Central this season and Corinthian-Casuals and Chipstead relegated.

Northwood and Thatcham Town have been moved sideways into another Step 4 League.
