Matt Loaring will undergo surgery in Southampton after fracturing his eye socket and cheekbone during Saturday’s draw with Badshot Lea.
The Guernsey FC midfielder was withdrawn from the game on 53 minutes after an accidental clash of heads.
“Matt is not only a terrific player but also a true cornerstone of Guernsey FC,” the club said on social media.
“His passion, skill, and commitment have inspired us all, and his absence will be deeply felt both on and off the pitch. “We’re sure everyone in the Green Lion family will join us in sending their best wishes to Matt for a smooth surgery and a full recovery. We can’t wait to see him back in action, doing what he does best.
“Stay strong, Matt – we’re all behind you!”
Loaring has played a record 408 games for the Green Lions and scored 111 goals.
The side’s were still locked at 0-0 when the clash happened.
Charlton Gauvain opened the scoring on 72 minutes, dispatching an inviting cross from substitute Fin Patterson.
Badshot’s Kareem Akinnibi back healed in the equaliser from the six yard box four minutes later, but moments later GFC won a penalty when Sam Murray was bundled over.
Gauvain took responsibility and slotted home with the goalkeeper sent the wrong way. But a controversial spotkick awarded with the game into the ninth minute of added time gave the visitors the chance to level things again.
Akinnibi found the bottom corner to ensure the points were shared.
Guernsey FC remain in the relegation places, but climbed one spot to 20th place with a couple of games in hand on the sides immediately above them.
