Golf: Guernsey and Jersey join forces to face Hampshire

Rivalries will be temporarily put aside when Guernsey and Jersey join forces in a CI men’s select team to face Hampshire.

The 2023 instalment at Royal Jersey Golf Club marked the first contest between the teams in five years, with the southern county side winning a thriller 6.5–5.5.

On 20/21 April, the eight strong CI team are seeking revenge on away soil at Havant’s Hayling Golf Club, in what serves as a season curtain raiser for the best golfers in the two bailiwicks.

The venue should be well suited to the CI golfers, as the rolling traditional links course provides a similar test to those the players face at L’Ancresse and Royal Jersey.

From Guernsey, Channel Island Championship runner-up Tom Le Huray, along with fellow Island Games gold medallists Jamie Blondel and Jeremy Nicolle get the nod, while highly rated junior Conor McKenna has the opportunity to pit his skills against Hampshire’s best.

From the Caesarean side, Jersey and Channel Island champion Harrison Carlyon makes his debut in the fixture, alongside order of merit winner Josh Ozard.

Stalwarts of Jersey golf and 2023 Island Games representatives Matt Parkman and Alex Guelpa make up the ‘red’ contingent.
