Three of Guernsey’s leading sportspeople are in the running for the Betway Sports Personality of the Year award.
Cycling Sam Culverwell, triathlete Josh Lewis and footballer Alex Scott have been shortlisted alongside Jersey’s table tennis star Hannah Silcock.
“2023 has been an extraordinary year of sport for the islands, the nominations demonstrate the outstanding achievement by Channel Islands sports men and women throughout 2023,” said Betway’s Paul Adkins.
“We are looking forward to an exciting evening of celebration and congratulate all those who
have been shortlisted.”
The winner is chosen by a public vote.
Other awards will also be presented on the night.
Nominees for the Grant Thornton Team of the Year are the Guernsey Island Games Swimming Team; Jersey Beach Sprint Rowing; Jersey Commonwealth Games Team; Jersey Men’s Football; Jersey Table Tennis Team.
And for the Sure Rising Star of the Year Award: Guernsey footballer Jack Griffin, Jersey triathlete Luke Holmes, Jersey swimmer Filip Nowacki, Jersey cricketer Asa Tribe.
Nominations for coach of the year are: Jersey Rugby’s Myles Landick; Sara Parfitt, Guernsey Swimming; Elliot Powell, Jersey Football; Guernsey Football’s Jordan Kelly.
Also handed out on the night will be the Michael Lucas Sporting Hero Award and the Judges Award for Achievement.
Former Wales Rugby International and a multiple world record holding polar athlete Richard Parks will be attending the event to share his story.
The awards will be presented live on ITV Channel Television during two special programmes at 20:30 and 22:40 on Thursday 8 February 2024.
It will be held at Beau Sejour.

Sam Culverwell
Guernsey's cycling star enjoyed a stellar 2023, with success on home soil at the NatWest International Island Games. Five medals in all included gold in the individual town criterium and a memorable sprint to the line in the road race. He impressed against some big names in British cycling too, finishing third at the British Gravel Championships in September.
Josh Lewis
Triathlete Lewis kicked off the NatWest International Island Games in fine style. He raced around Rocquaine on the opening day to claim a brilliant gold. A few months later he was fifth at the Ironman 70.3 World Championships - the highest finish by a British athlete since two-time Olympic champion Alastair Brownlee was on the podium five years ago.
Alex Scott
2023 was the year Alex Scott achieved his footballing dream - becoming a Premier League player. The Sarnian signed for Bournemouth in the summer following another impressive season at Bristol City which saw him named as The Championship's Young Player of the Season. The £25 million man then finished the year with his first Premier League goal on New Year's Eve.
Hannah Silcock
Hannah Silcock's rise to prominence in the world of table tennis continues to grow. In this year she become Jersey's first ever women's British champion in the sport after winning the British Home Nations Championship. She also shone on her Island Games debut, winning gold in the women's singles and team event before adding two more medals in the women's and team doubles.
