A chance to turn your Park Run into a track run - Night of the 5000s launched

Thursday 30 May 2024

Guernsey Athletics has announced the date for this year’s Skipton Night of the 5000s event, an event aimed at giving anyone the experience of running on the track at Footes Lane.

The annual night of 5k races which are graded by ability to help make people feel more comfortable has a fun and festive atmosphere and takes place at Footes Lane on Friday 5 July from 18:00.

Also in the programme is event three in the free Healthcare Group’s Masters Mile Series, which offers anyone over 50 the chance to walk, jog or run the classic distance.

The challenge of running 5k is already popular, with hundreds regularly turning out for Parkrun or Guernsey Athletics-organised events throughout the year.

Tom Druce, Development Officer at Guernsey Athletics said: “There will be food, music, a bar, plus plenty of support. As the night goes on, participants will get the chance to watch faster athletes battle it out.

“We would encourage people through to their 70s, 80s and even 90s to try the Masters Mile – being active at these ages helps people have a fulfilling, healthier life, and we want to celebrate that.”

The Masters Mile holds its second event on Sunday 8 June at Beau Sejour, which will be followed by a screening of Chariots of Fire in the Beau Sejour cinema. Already more than 50 people are signed up to take part in that, with more having joined after a successful introductory session.

There are pre-event training sessions on offer for the Masters Mile to help get ready for the challenge.

Anyone interested in that training should contact Alun Williams at: alun.williams@healthimprovement.gg
