Aspiring local swimmer chosen for “elite development squad”

Tuesday 07 November 2023

An aspiring local swimmer from the Guernsey Swimming Club has been chosen for what has been described as an elite development squad in a national swimming programme.

14-year-old Emma Bourgaize has been a part of ‘Swim England’s’ Age Group Development Programme since 2020. She has now been selected to join the programme’s National Pathway for 2023-24, following her performance at last weekend’s Winter Southeast Regional Championships in Winchester.

Swim England's National Pathway can only be entered via invitation and guides quality swimmers in achieving entry into British Swimming's world class swimming programmes. It guides swimmers towards becoming fully funded athletes.

Emma’s selection is a great achievement given the stiff competition she faced, not only in the south of the UK but across the whole country,” said Guernsey Swimming Club Coach, Haidèe Stephens, who accompaniedEmma to the Regional Championships.

Prior to selection, Emma had competed in Swim England's National Summer Meet in Sheffield, qualifying against competitors in her age group and reaching finals in both the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle.
