Is your firm accountable with data handling?

Wednesday 05 June 2024

An anonymous survey from the data protection office hopes to draw the attention of all local firms to accountability when handling data, and there’s an opportunity to comment on how the ODPA is performing in this regard too.

The public consultation from the ODPA is seeking to understand how companies meet their legal duties with respecting individual's data rights, with accountability underpinning all of them.

It wants to assist any firms to ensure practices are up to scratch andidentify any guidance gaps that the data office may be failing on.

“Accountability is not just important for controllers and processors. The ODPA needs to be accountable too, both for its own processing and for the delivery of its statutory functions,” it said.

“Therefore, in order to assess the value of the support the ODPA provides, there are questions at the end of the survey giving you the opportunity to feedback on how the ODPA is doing.

“The results will be used to provide additional guidance where needed and to drive the ODPA’s work to support the regulated community.”
