Les Bourgs Hospice has noticed a pattern with younger people needing support while the demand for specialist palliative care services has increased as a whole.
Sharing its highlights of 2024, and its plans for 2025, Liz Stonebridge, the fundraising administrator for Les Bourgs Hospice said its services have continued to develop to meet the demand.
She told Express that there has also been an investment in the hospice specialist care team.
"We are proud to have held some successful career open days in 2024 which have helped us to expand our specialist care team and develop the services that we can offer," she explained.

Ms Stonebridge said it's not just traditional hospice services on offer at Les Bourgs, with a new focus on different types of support and essential services during 2024.
"One of the areas where we have welcomed a change in 2024 has been the development of bereavement support, particularly for families and young children to feel part of their loved one’s hospice journey as this will help them in future life.
"This year has also seen the introduction of fresh, home cooked meals at Andrew Mitchell House which are a vital part of the compassionate care that we provide, helping patients and their families feel supported and cared for during a challenging time."
Like all charities, Les Bourgs Hospice relies on volunteers and fundraisers as well as its staff. Together they all provide the only hospice in the Bailiwick.
2024 saw new challenges for the team though, said Ms Stonebridge.
"We have seen an increase in the demand for our specialist palliative care services with an increasing complexity of patient needs," she said. "There has also been a shift in age profile of our patients with a younger demographic needing our support in comparison with previous years."
Among Les Bourgs Hospice's plans for 2025 are continued fundraising for pay for its traditional services, along with a new take on its day unit.
"Like the Hospice Sector in the UK we are experiencing the same challenges of increasing costs but lower funding so financial support would always be top of our list," said Ms Stonebridge.
"This is closely followed by a successful relaunch of our day hospice as a Wellbeing Hub and continually evolving our bereavement support service."

While looking to expand the future, the team at Les Bourgs also wished to thank everyone for their continued support during 2024 and in to 2025.
"We are incredibly grateful to everyone in our Community who has supported Les Bourgs Hospice during 2024," said Ms Stonebridge. "Whether it has been volunteering time, organising an event, taking on one of our challenges, supporting our charity shop or pledging money it has all made an important difference to us.
"We could not continue providing free, specialist care 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without you so THANK YOU!
"We wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy 2025."
