Royal Wedding won't 'reign' on Kayleigh's day

Friday 18 May 2018

When Kayleigh Hutton and Dan Johnson got engaged and chose their wedding date they had no idea that they would have to share the date with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Ms Hutton and Mr Johnson are making their vows today with a few family and friends, but have their wedding party and dance tomorrow on the same day as the Royal couple.

Ms Hutton is marrying Dan Johnson at St. James on Friday 18 May at 12:00 in a low key ceremony with very close family and friends. Her main wedding party and dance will be on Saturday 19 May at La Reunion.

She said she does not mind sharing the date with the Royal couple: "When they announced they were engaged and the wedding was likely to be in May, I said to Dan 'I bet you it will be the same weekend,' and of course it was. It is nice to know we are sharing the special time together."

Although their own wedding party and dance does not start till 18:00, the couple have still been impacted as many wish to watch the 'other' wedding on television rather than help set up for their event. Ms Hutton said: "I know my Mum and Mother in law to be are definitely tuning in. They aren’t able to help set up because of this!"

Ms Hutton is clearly hoping that her own wedding set up won't take too long as she said: "The party is at 18:00 so we are able to watch. I am interested in the royal wedding, but mainly to see what Meghan is wearing probably like most women. I will have to find some time to tune in."

She said another televised event may impact her wedding more: "Our problem for the party really is the FA cup final as we have Chelsea and Manchester United fans and there is a rumour going round that La Reunion are putting a TV up, I’m not aware of this."

The couple have a son Hugo who will be three at the end of May say that the most important thing is that the day is a family occasion: "Our son Hugo is helping with the rings providing he wants to on the day and I’m excited to have him there. We’re really looking forward to the wedding now it’s finally here."
