Public Health is providing islanders with information to help them stay well this winter.
The cold weather often affects those that are most vulnerable, including the young, elderly and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr Nicola Brink, Director of Public Health, said: "This winter, take steps to protect your physical and mental wellbeing.
"Simple actions can make a big difference. Layer clothing, keep your home warm, eat a balanced diet, and get your recommended seasonal vaccines to boost your immune system and stay healthy.
"Try to move more. Even short bursts of physical activity can improve both your physical and mental health.
"Don't forget your community: check on neighbours and family, offer help with shopping or just a friendly chat, and ensure they have access to warmth, food, medication, and vital social connections, which is so important at this time of the year."
Public Health's simple steps to help you stay healthier this winter:
• Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways of controlling the spread of
infections.
• Keep up to date with vaccinations to reduce the likelihood of infection and severe
illness.
• Coughs and sneezes spread diseases. Covering the nose and mouth with a tissue
when sneezing and coughing can reduce the spread of infections. Throw the tissue
away swiftly and clean your hands.
• Keeping homes and work settings clean, reduces the risk of infection transmission.
• Opening windows when indoors can help reduce the spread of respiratory infections.
Christmas and New Year can be an extremely difficult time of the year for some.
Islanders may feel lonely or be struggling with personal or financial difficulties.
