Guernsey brought home two prizes after another night of celebration for Channel Islands sports, with Guernsey Raiders being named team of the year and Lorraine Ellis winning the Michael Lucas Sporting Hero Award.

They, and others from the world of Sarnian sport, were at the Channel Islands Sports Personality of the Year award ceremony in Jersey last night.

The gala evening, held at The Royal Jersey Showground, saw the accolade of the Betway CI Sports Personality of the Year Award 2018 go to Jersey netballer Serena Guthrie, who couldn't be there on the night as she is now based in the UK where she trains with the England team.

Guernsey Raiders were rewarded for their hard work and achievements last year, with The Blue Islands Team of the Year Award. That recognised their promotion to National 2 South and their historic Siam Cup win.

The night saw two special awards presented with Guernsey woman Lorraine Ellis receiving the Michael Lucas Sporting Hero Award in recognition of her commitment and contribution to Guernsey Rangers football team.

Mrs Ellis works tirelessly for the club and helped organise events to mark the team's 125th anniversary last year.
