William Tate has been re-elected as the President of the States of Alderney, for a second four-year term.
An election held yesterday (Saturday 30 November) saw him go head to head with Mark Smith.
There was a 51% turnout at the Island Hall with 723 votes cast.
Mr Tate won the majority with 467 votes for the incumbent, against 256 for Mr Smith.
As President until 2028, Mr Tate will continue to represent the island at home and abroad, as well as overseeing States meetings,
The President is the highest ranking civil servant in Alderney. While non-political the President does have the right to cast the deciding vote in the event of a tied vote.
Mr Tate has already held the position for more than 5 years having first been elected through a Presidential by-election in June 2019 following the resignation of predecessor Stuart Trought.
