Deputy Carl Meerveld channeled his inner rapper as he told the States all about the fruit and vegetables he’s been growing in his garden.
The unlikely speech, which was supplemented by some “visual aids” that only the States members using Microsoft Teams were able to see, came about during yesterday's debate on the Island Development Plan.
After explaining how restrictive he found some of Guernsey’s planning laws for people wanting to grow on their own land, he told colleagues all about his commitment to horticulture.
The best way to do that, he decided, was to list off all the fruit and veg he is currently growing.

In doing so, Deputy Meerveld showcased a talent for delivering lyrics too fast for any human shorthand to keep up with.
The overworked 4G network similarly failed to process some of his words, meaning he breaks up a little towards the end.
Although the speed is all his own, we’ve added a couple of effects just to get a beat going.
We’ve also left on the automatic subtitles. My personal favourite is the pronouncement that he’s growing “a giant tattoo”.
