A local postie had her luscious locks chopped this morning in aid of the Guernsey Society for Cancer Relief.

26-year-old Tyler Ferbrache, who coined the phrase “Buzzcut for Bulstrode”, has donated her hair to The Little Princess Trust. It will be used to make wigs for children who have lost their hair through cancer treatment or other conditions.

“I have a lot of hair so thought the buzzcut would be the ideal opportunity to give a child a sense of normality during, what I am sure, is a very difficult time,” said Tyler.

“I am sure whoever receives my hair will love it just as much as I do.”

The “big chop” took place this morning at Envoy House and saw Tyler’s colleagues take turn to cut off sections off her hair before it was buzzcut. She live streamed the event on her Facebook page.

“This is a really big deal for me. Like many other women, I am rather attached to my hair, but I know it will grow back in time, a privilege not everyone has,” said Tyler.

Tyler continued: “Someone extremely important to me has recently been diagnosed with cancer and is now receiving chemotherapy at Bulstrode Oncology Unit at the hospital. I cut my hair in solidarity with them and to raise money for a fantastic local charity.

“I have a lot of hair, so I hope that I’ll be able to raise a lot of money for this incredible cause.”

Tyler set a fundraising target of £3,000, which has been surpassed, but encourages islanders to continue to donate to her fundraising efforts HERE
