Wallace wins 'Best in Show'

The competition was 'ruff' but the GSPCA's manager was able to whittle down the entrants to name the winners in seven different categories at the recent South Show's Dog Show.

Steve Byrne was given the difficult task of judging the 'best puppy' and 'dog most like their owner' along with other criteria.

He said it was a lovely event, even though the warm weather meant the Dog Show was shortened to make it more comfortable for the furry competitors.

“We had a wonderful day at the South Show on Saturday but it was very warm and sunny," he said.

“Due to the warm weather we put up a dozen gazebos including an extra large one to judge the show so it could be held in the shade. We also combined a few of the classes so the dogs weren’t out for too long.

“We met some amazing dogs and wonderful owners all who had a lot of fun in the sun and mostly in the shade."

As well as naming the well deserved winners the Dog Show raised some money for the GSPCA said Mr Byrne.

“Between our stall and the Fun Dog Show we raised nearly £250 and really enjoyed the day.

“The winner of the Best in Show 2024 as well as the Best Rescue was a lovely rescue greyhound called Wallace with his owner Hannah.

“The furthest travelled was Balu all the way from Italy on his holidays."
