Vinery decision to be made at public meeting

Thursday 10 October 2019

A controversial development in Oatlands Lane will be subject to another public hearing, where a decision will finally be made.

After more than four hours of evidence and questions, an Open Planning Meeting in August reviewing an application to convert a vinery off Oatlands Lane into a storage site closed without reaching a conclusion.

The application for Avondale and Domarie Vineries requested a “change of use of horticultural buildings, glasshouse and land to south-east of site to form 15 storage units and 2 open yards."

The previous meeting was described by residents and neighbours as a "shambles" after those members of the Development & Planning Authority who were present chose to defer a decision so that further conversations could take place with land owners.

"The majority of Members voted to defer the decision in order to request additional information on vehicle access and traffic safety from the applicant," said a spokesperson for the DPA. "The Authority anticipated that the decision on this application would be made within eight weeks as part of one of their normal meetings.

"However, the Authority has agreed that it is in the best interests of the community for the review of the additional information and the decision to be made in public."

An Open Planning Meeting has been arranged for Wednesday 23 October, in the Delancey/Cambridge Room at Beau Sejour at 13:15 for a 13:30 start. Members of the public who have previously made a representation on this application have been invited to speak at the OPM.

Issues to be discussed are limited to the reasons for deferral and the new video evidence provided.

The video evidence provided by the applicant, a video produced by the Authority, and an addendum to the published planning application report will be made
available online at www.gov.gg/opm from Wednesday 16 October.
