Van mystery continues

Wednesday 21 December 2022

Confusion reigns over the future of a van which has been left on the shoreline at Picquerel since the weekend, with the owner apparently not interested in moving it.

It's thought it has been there since at least Friday and every high tide since has covered the vehicle.

Its fate was first brought to the wider attention of the public on Saturday morning when Guernsey Police said they had spoken with the owner and said they had "no concerns" about it.

Express has spoken with the Rousse Mooring Committee which is also aware of the matter and says the owner is not bothered about the van.

The spokesperson said that States Works would be responsible for moving it, while Vale Douzaine has said that the States Agriculture, Countryside and Land Management team would have to move it.

Under Guernsey's Foreshore (Riding and Driving) Ordinance from 1 May to 30 September inclusive vehicles must not be driven on the island's foreshores between 10:00 and 19:00, unless permission is given by the Police or for a specific event.

Exemptions include fishermen hauling fishing gear or people attending to boats as is often the case at Picquerel where a number of small vessels are anchored.

The next high tide is at 16:40 today with a height of 8.35 metres.
