Two secondary schools have new headteachers

From September, Martin Haimes will be Les Beaucamps High School Acting Headteacher and Kieran James the Acting Headteacher at the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre.

The position at Les Beaucamps became available after its headteacher, Sophie Roughsedge, was seconded to the Education Office. Mr Haimes has some 25 years’ experience in teaching, spending 15 years as Deputy Headteacher in England at a high performing comprehensive, and locally at the Grammar School and Sixth Form Centre.

Mr Haimes said he was looking forward to joining and working with the school’s team.

“Education is currently undergoing significant transformation and I am honoured to be leading Les Beaucamps during this exciting time to ensure that equal opportunities are provided to all young people in the Baiiwick.”

Mr James is being promoted from his current role of Deputy Headteacher and Director of Sixth Form studies. It comes after Liz Coffey, the former head of the Grammar School, became Executive Headteacher under Guernsey’s new system of secondary education.

Mr James has two-decades of experience teaching in schools in Guernsey, England, Portugal and New Zealand. 

“From September 2019, the school will receive its first intake of all-ability students. I am looking forward to using the experience that I have gained throughout my career in order to lead the staff through this time of transition,” he said.

Director of Education, Andrew Warren, said: “Both Martin and Kieran have extensive knowledge and experience within educational settings and I am certain that they will be very successful at leading their schools and ensuring their high level of achievement is maintained.”
